NMAT 2026 Application Process

For NMAT by GMAC 2026, registration is done online through the official NMAT website. The registration window is 20 August–10 October 2026.

Step-by-step

1. Create an NMAT account

   • Go to the official NMAT by GMAC website.

   • Click Register and create your account using your email/contact details.

2. Fill in the application form
   You will provide:

   • Personal details

   • Contact/address details

   • Academic information

   • Work-experience details, if applicable

   • Category information

   • A recent photograph

   • School/program preferences

   • Exam-mode preferences

3. Upload your photograph
   The photograph should be recent, clearly show your face, and meet GMAC's specified format/size requirements. GMAC specifies JPG/PNG/GIF and a maximum file size of 1 MB.

4. Preview the application carefully
   Check your name, date of birth, academic details, category, address and other information before submitting. Some information cannot be changed after submission.

5. Pay the registration fee
   The 2026 test-registration fee is:

₹3,000 + applicable taxes

Payment methods include Visa, Mastercard, American Express, debit card and internet banking.

1. Schedule your exam
   After successful registration and payment, use “Book Exam” from your candidate dashboard. You can select your preferred:

   • Exam date

   • Time slot

   • Test centre

Scheduling is first-come, first-served, so registering early can give you more choice of slots and centres.

1. Download the admit card
   Your admit card becomes available 7 days before your scheduled exam date. You need to download/print it and bring it with the required identification documents.

Important 2026 deadlines

Don't confuse these two applications

NMAT registration ≠ B-school application.

Registering for NMAT only registers you for the exam. You generally need to apply separately to each MBA/B-school/program you want to join, according to that institution's application deadline and requirements.

Retakes

You can take NMAT a maximum of 3 times in the testing year, including the first attempt and up to two retakes. There must be at least 15 days between attempts. A retake costs ₹3,000 + applicable taxes.

One useful tip: don't wait until the registration deadline to schedule. The preferred dates, times and test centres are allocated subject to availability.

NMAT 2026 Exam Pattern to Remember

Unlike many other MBA entrance exams, NMAT has no negative marking. You can also choose the order of the three sections. However, once you leave a section, you cannot return to it, and the time allotted to one section cannot be transferred to another.

The exam is computer-adaptive, so question difficulty can change based on your responses.

NMAT 2026 Preparation Tips

NMAT is different from many MBA entrance exams because it is computer-adaptive, has sectional time limits, allows you to choose section order, and has no negative marking. Your preparation should therefore focus not just on concepts, but also on speed, accuracy, and time management.

1. Know the exam structure first

Because each section has its own timer, you cannot carry unused time from one section to another. Official NMAT exam pattern

2. Start with a diagnostic mock

Before studying seriously, take one full-length NMAT mock.

Record:

• Overall score
• Section-wise score
• Questions attempted
• Accuracy
• Average time per question
• Topics where you made mistakes

This gives you a baseline and prevents spending weeks preparing topics you already know well.

3. Build your Quant foundation

Prioritize Arithmetic first because it provides a strong base for many NMAT questions.

Focus on:

4. Improve Language Skills through daily practice

Spend 30–45 minutes every day on English.

A useful routine:

For vocabulary, don't just memorize isolated words. Learn the meaning, usage and common synonyms/antonyms.

5. Practice Logical Reasoning under time pressure

Concentrate on:

For critical reasoning, practice identifying the conclusion, evidence and assumption before looking at the answer choices.

6. Develop a time strategy

The approximate time available per question is:

• • Language: ~47 seconds

  • Quant: ~87 seconds

  • LR: ~67 seconds

These are averages, not targets for every question.

Some questions will take 20–30 seconds; others will require more than a minute. The key is to avoid getting trapped on one question.

7. Use NMAT's no-negative-marking rule intelligently

Since NMAT does not have negative marking, avoid leaving questions unanswered.

However, don't interpret this as "guess immediately." First eliminate obviously incorrect options, make your best selection and keep moving.

8. Experiment with section order

NMAT lets you choose which section to attempt first.

Try different orders in your mocks, for example:

Option A: Language → LR → Quant
Option B: Quant → Language → LR
Option C: LR → Language → Quant

Choose the order based on your own mock performance, rather than copying someone else's strategy.

9. Analyze every mock

Taking 20 mocks without analyzing them is much less useful than taking 10 mocks and analyzing them properly.

After each mock, classify every mistake:

• • Conceptual error

  • Calculation error

  • Misread question

  • Poor time management

  • Guess

  • Careless mistake

Then maintain an error log and revisit it every few days.

10. A simple 8-week preparation plan

Try to gradually move from untimed → timed sectional practice → full mocks.

11. Don't neglect speed

For NMAT, knowing the solution isn't enough—you need to reach it quickly.

A good practice cycle is:

Learn concept → solve normally → solve timed → review mistakes → repeat

For Quant, also build a small formula sheet containing:

  • Squares/cubes

  • Fractions-to-percentages

  • Common algebra identities

  • Speed/time relationships

  • Work-rate formulas

12. Use official preparation material

A practical daily routine

If you can study 3 hours/day, try:

• • 60 min — Quant

  • 45 min — Language

  • 45 min — LR

  • 30 min — Previous mistakes/revision

On weekends, replace part of the practice with a full-length mock and detailed analysis.

Most important principle

Don't prepare for NMAT simply by trying to solve harder and harder questions. Prepare to solve the right questions quickly and accurately within each section's fixed time limit.

NMAT 2026 Latest Update — September 2026

As of 27 September 2026, NMAT 2026 registration is currently open. The most important update for aspirants is that the registration deadline is 10 October 2026, while the exam-slot scheduling deadline is 22 October 2026.

What you should do now

If you haven't registered yet: complete the application before 10 October. Registration and exam scheduling are separate steps—you must also book your exam date, time and test centre.

If you've already registered: don't wait until 22 October to schedule. GMAC says slots are allocated first-come, first-served, so earlier scheduling gives you a better chance of getting your preferred slot/centre.

Exam pattern remains

• Language Skills: 36 questions, 28 minutes

• Quantitative Skills: 36 questions, 52 minutes

• Logical Reasoning: 36 questions, 40 minutes

• Total: 108 questions, 120 minutes

• Score range: 36–360

• No negative marking

• Candidates can choose the section order.

Exam-centre update

GMAC currently states that NMAT is administered at test centres in India, with centres across 54 cities. Your available centres are shown during scheduling based on the address in your application.

Fees

• Initial registration: ₹3,000 + applicable taxes

• Retake: ₹3,000 + applicable taxes

• Rescheduling: ₹1,200 + applicable taxes

• Additional score reports beyond the first five: ₹400 each + applicable taxes

One important point for NMAT 2026

NMAT registration does not automatically mean you've applied to every B-school accepting NMAT scores. GMAC explicitly says B-school applications are separate, and individual institutes can have their own deadlines and score-acceptance policies.
